New York Stock Exchange and Euronext Opening Bell Ceremonies

The third annual World Autism Awareness Day was celebrated a bit early today at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and Euronext locations around the world. In NYC, Autism Speaks volunteers and supporters opened the day by ringing the NYSE opening bell. As the NYSE is closed on April 2 for the religious holiday, Autism Speaks was given the honor of ringing the bell on April 1.

NYSE CEO Duncan Niederauer was joined at the Opening Bell Ceremony by his wife Alison and their children Liam, Eva and Amanda. Also on the platform were Autism Speaks Co-founders Bob and Suzanne Wright, Dr. Liri Berisha, Spouse of the Prime Minister of Albania, Autism Speaks board members Laura Slatkin and her husband Harry, as well as Adrian Jones and his wife Tina and son Danny, along with several other Autism Speaks advocates.

Additionally, Autism Speaks was proud to partner with Autism-Europe and NYSE Euronext in the first-ever global bell ringing across NYSE Euronext markets with member autism organizations opening or closing the trading day in Amsterdam, Brussels, Lisbon and Paris.

Participants included:
NYSE Euronext Amsterdam: Representatives from The Dutch Autism Association sounded the closing gong at NYSE Euronext Amsterdam for the second year in a row;

NYSE Euronext Brussels: Aurelie Baranger, Director of Autism-Europe, rang the opening bell at NYSE Euronext Brussels;

NYSE Euronext Lisbon: Isabel Cotinelli Telmo, President of Federação Portuguesa de Autismo and President of APPDA-Lisboa rang the closing bell at NYSE Euronext Lisbon;

NYSE Euronext Paris: Evelyne Friedel, President of Autism-Europe rang the closing bell at NYSE Euronext Paris.

Immediately after the Opening Bell, the Niederauers and Wrights were interviewed on CNBC’s Squawk on the Street. Bob Wright talked about how autism awareness drives research and that the current research is really starting to gain attention. Young Liam Niederauer, who rang the opening bell, thanked all his friends who were watching. View the segment below.
