Autism Speaks and The Home Depot Team Up to Shine a Light on Autism
Autism Speaks, North America’s largest autism science and advocacy organization, and The Home Depot® have partnered to shine a light on autism during Autism Awareness Month in April and World Autism Awareness Day on April 2. The Home Depot, the largest distributor of Coleman products, will sell blue Coleman LED lanterns and blue light bulbs starting mid-March, offering people across the country the opportunity to raise autism awareness through Autism Speaks’ Light it Up Blue initiative. A portion of each sale will go to Autism Speaks to fund research, advocacy, family services, and awareness for families struggling with this disorder.
“The Home Depot and Coleman have become critical partners in Autism Speaks’ Light It Up Blue campaign,” said Pat Kemp, Autism Speaks Executive Vice President – Marketing, Corporate Relations and Development. “We can now encourage all Americans, whether they are touched by autism or not, to join the campaign on April 1 and 2 to show their compassion for families facing this disorder by lighting up their homes blue.”
The light bulbs retail for $1.65, and $1 from each one purchased, up to $80,000, will benefit Autism Speaks. The Coleman LED lanterns retail at $19.88 and $2 from each, up to $160,000, will go to Autism Speaks. The lantern alternates from white to blue when illuminated. The Home Depot arranged for the specially marked Light It Up Blue Coleman products to be manufactured and distributed throughout all of their stores in the United States and will be available in stores from March 15 through the end of April or while supplies last.
The Light It Up Blue campaign, now in its second year, has garnered the support of over 300 iconic buildings and landmarks across the globe that will illuminate their structures in bright blue on the evening of April 1 and 2 in an effort to help raise awareness and shine a bright light on autism as a growing public health crisis.
Autism Speaks has a special Web site, www.lightitupblue.org, to highlight the campaign. The Light It Up Blue Web site provides unique and fun ideas about how people can get involved in their local community, from hosting autism-themed gatherings to viewings of autism-themed films and TV programs. The site also accepts donations to fund autism awareness and research efforts.

*For anyone having difficulty finding bulbs*
Call your local Home Depot Lighting & Electrical department, ask if they have them. If they do not, ask if the associate can look up what stores in your area still have stock and give the SKU. The SKU # is 625677 for the blue light bulbs.

Will the Canadian Home Depot stores also be participating?
My autistic son loves home depot,we have to go all the time to get pipes,he loves all types of pipes, and vacuums.
Unfortunately, I just called my local Home Depot and they don’t have the lightbulbs. They seemed completely unaware of the promotion.
Good morning Nicole,
Which is your local The Home Depot store? I’d be more than happy to check with our inventory team to see if there are blue bulbs on the way or if there is another store near you who has them.
I also just visited my local Home Depot. I found the light bulb display way in the back of the lighting section, but no one knew anything about the Coleman Lanterns. I also checked the Home Depot web site with no luck. I would buy two if I could find them – one for my son with Autism and one for his ever so patient sister. Thanks!
The Durango, CO store has absolutely no idea what this campaign is.
Hi Amanda. As Kevin replied, the store is in Durango, CO. My husband checked again today and they did not have them. I would appreciate if you could check inventory. The Home Depot closest to this one would be in Farmington, NM. Thanks:).
we went and they did not know what we were talking about then we show them the flyer the were out we were very sad wanted to buy and give to family and friends
Amanda,
Can you check the inventory for 11010. I went to three different HDs and nobody had the light bulbs, just the lanterns and employees didn’t even know what I was talking about when I asked. TIA.
Same here. Millville, NJ store doesn’t have any and are unaware of this promotion. We wanted to purchase at least 10 to give out out our support group.
I will be purchasing blue light bulbs for my daughter Alanis for Autism Awareness Day and lets all “Light it up Blue”
I just spoke to 2 different Home Depot stores in my area. One was aware of the Blue Light promotion and the other had no clue what I was talking about. Home Depot needs to teach their stores about the projects that they are sponsoring! I will say the manager of the store that wasn’t aware did take the time to listen to me and then checked the details out for himself and called me back.
Got my bulbs already. There were a few people purchasing the bulbs when I was there. I told some others about it when standing in line and they went to get some before checking out. :)
I just came from my local HD and they had ZERO KNOWLEDGE of any of it. It is store #1608.
bought mine today! :)
I just called 5 locations in the Western New York area and they HAVE the Coleman lanterns and blue light bulbs!! When you talk to customer services, SOME people weren’t aware of it but as soon as they transfered me to Electrical, the knew all about it! Thank you EVERYONE for your support!!
I have also visited several Home Depot stores and none have the blue lights/coleman lantern displays. One worker found an email on it and said he had not idea when the items will be available.
Alot of honor and class behind The Home Depot. Good job bringing awareness to the community. Thanks from the bottom of our hearts.
I am so glad to see everyone getting envoled in such a great organization. My son is on the specturm band. He is turning 4 this summer and these type programs has really made a different in his life. Keep up the great work. Thank you
I was able to find the light bulbs and the lantern at our local Home Depot today! I have been spreading the word today!!
I am glad to donate to autism but the blue bulbs are green when lit and extremely hot within seconds and could be a fire hazard.
unable to find at boro in middle tn
any one know where to find them in middle tn
I bought 10 light bulbs yesterday and distributed them to family and friends. The lights and lanterns were well displayed in the Home Depot in south Seattle and the staff was informed not only of the program but about the amount going to Autism Speaks.
Are the light bulbs that Home Depot contracted to be made, made in America?
no incadesant light bulbs are made in the US anymore. The last company to make them moved their production to China back in September.
I work part time at a Home Depot store. I am very heartened that Home Depot has taken an active role in this project and are donating $1 from every Autism Speaks light bulb and $2 from the special Coleman lanterns to the cause. I have bought several of the bulbs and educated fellow employees about the program and the importance of it. I have also trained management as well as front end cashiers so everyone is aware of this.
I have gone to two Home depot and they are had no idea what I was talking about. I found the light bulbs hidden. I moved the display to the front so it could be seen as people walked by. However I could not find the lanterns nor did any associate at the store. Again they had no idea what I was talking about.
Unfortunately, my husband could not find any at our local home depot and neither could he find anyone who had even heard of them. We had them look up the SKU just to see and the nearest bulb is 2 and a half hours away, which is also the nearest large city. I am totally bummed. I was looking forward to keeping my outside house lights blue for the month of April.
I just came from my local Home Depot and couldn’t find the bulbs at all. After half hour searching, I just gave up. My wife called the store. Home Depot claims they only received 2 cases (about 24 bulbs) The person says they are stocked in a hard to see location away from all the other bulbs.
Is there anyway to order these light bulbs?? No stores in my area have any left:( I looked in Deptford NJ,,Matua NJ, and Voorhees NJ they are all sold out!!!!
Home Depot in Franklin TN has the bulbs and the lanterns. $17.99 for the lantern and $1 something for the bulb. Maybe they would ship them??
Great idea to raise folks awareness. Can these lanterns still be purchased? I would really like to get one. Any HD still have them?
