Sue H.:
My home!

AS: Why is this important to you?
SH: Why isn’t it important should be the question… My grandson is autistic and I have worked in the field now for 28 years.

AS: Wow that’s great! How are you lighting your home?
SH: We are going to do it ourselves. I have the bulbs!

AS: What other buildings would you like to see lit up?

Today’s virtual interview is with Rebecca Y. from Chicago, Ill.

Autism Speaks: What are you Lighting Up Blue?
Rebecca Y.:
North Park University Apartments and Houses

AS: Why was the ‘Light It Up Blue’ campaign important to you?
RY
: It is important for me because this is my school, and has become my second home. My university is known for getting behind and supporting causes. This is a cause and movement I think many students are unaware of and don’t think will really affect them, personally. However, with the rates of diagnosis of autism climbing throughout the decades, I fear their unawareness will catch up with them one day.

AS: How did you get North Park University on board?
RY: I am planning on lighting up these buildings with help from my RA and through the Residence Life on campus. They are hosting the event and getting blue light bulbs for the different apartments and houses.
