Parenthood – “Damage Control”

On this week’s episode “Damage Control” of Parenthood, Haddie invites her friend Alex over for dinner. When he arrives at Adam and Kristina’s, he is immediately faced with Max’s honesty.

Have you ever had a situation where your child’s blatant honesty has come through? If so, how did you handle it?

Laura Shumaker wrote a post sharing her own version, Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Fat.

My daughter once asked a woman at Target why she looked like and talked like a man. After that, I swear, everywhere we went in the store, there she was. We left soon after.

My son told a man in a public pool that he had a big belly. Luckily, he was very good natured about it as he did in fact have a pretty big belly!

My daughter doesn’t often say things directly to people, but she will often loudly ask me questions: “Mom, is that a boy or a girl?” “Mom, why is the fat lady buying ice cream?” “Mom, why does that guy’s face look like that?” Anything and everything.

I thought the whole situation with Alex having dinner at the Braverman’s was actually great…they did a really good job of making it just the right amount of tense and somewhat humorours, too. I also loved that song they played when Adam invited Alex to dinner (“At the Doors” by Junip), it really fit the scene so well. FYI, you can watch that at http://vimeo.com/18607863
